English Language Access Scholarship Program (ACCESS)

Today, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Georgia Kelly Degnan visited the Ozurgeti Group of the English Language Access Scholarship Program (ACCESS). The meeting with the graduates of the program was held in an interesting and direct environment.

The young people asked the ambassador many questions and the meeting turned into an honest discussion. The Ambassador could not hide his surprise at the participants’ English speaking skills and not once mentioned the program and
Teachers make a great contribution to their success.

At the end of the meeting, the students presented to the ambassador a video clip they had shot on Guria. The clip is in English and introduces us to Guria and Gurians through a song. The Ambassador thanked Tamar Glonti, Executive Director of the Institute for Innovation and Change (formerly Guria Youth Resource Center), the host organization of the program
ACCESS program teachers Nadia Kardava and Ana Nozadze  and she presented symbolic gifts to them. For its part, the Institute for Innovation and Change (formerly the Guria Youth Resource Center) presented a Gurian-themed wall clock by a subsidiary, a social enterprise of laser engraving.

The event ended with the taking of memorable photos.

English Language Access Scholarship Program (ACCESS): PH International is funded by the US Embassy in Georgia, and the Institute for Innovation and Change (formerly the Guria Youth Resource Center) is a program partner in Ozurgeti. The program aims to make English language learning accessible to adolescents aged 13 to 16 from economically and socially disadvantaged families. In addition to children learning English, they also share American culture, customs, and develop leadership qualities. The program is two years and includes 4 semesters of teaching.
